• I thought that my phone call with Tom would be the end of it. I apparently didn't appreciate how flummoxed that Brad and Allegra were by the situation undoubtedly in part because they were used to always getting their way, for some reason it really bugged them that I wouldn't accept their thanks, and the press (outside of Aberdine) kept asking them if they had done anything to thank me since the few times that that question had been yelled at me when I left my office the first week after the rescue I replied "No comment."
• About a week after my phone call with Tom I got another one from him. After we talked about some other issues he said "Oh by the way, Brad and Allegra Samson gave a $100,000 donation to the State search and rescue fund, no strings attached. I don't suppose that makes any difference to you?"
• "No, Tom; sorry, it doesn't."
